I haven’t wrote much about the Premiership so far because I’ve been too busy watching it, and also trying not to get caught up in all the crap being written about Manchester United’s dismal start to the 2007-08 season. But I’m sat watching the Chelsea/Liverpool game at the moment, my phone off to stop the flood of negative texts following United’s defeat at rivals City and I want to get a few things clear.

Sure this, statistically, is United’s worst start in Premiership history. It’s the worst start I’ve seen them make for as long as I’ve been watching football. But having watched every game in its entirety – Man Utd could so easily be looking at maximum points rather than two out of nine. And everybody else who has watched those games will agree. 75% possession throughout the whole game at home to Reading – the chances just wouldn’t come. Complete domination against Portsmouth and Man City, with those two squeezing away a goal from only a couple of chances, and once more United just couldn’t find their shooting boots.

But in every single game the commentators, pundits, fans and even myself have sat there thinking “well it’s only a matter of time before we score”. And with that being said, it is ONLY a matter of time before United start putting the goals in. It’s not the performances – shit, in all three games this season we’ve toyed with the other teams.

I know what you’re thinking. “It’s results that matter”. Yeah, it is. But misfortune doesn’t extend for the whole season. Tevez is still unfit, as are Hargreaves and Anderson, Ronaldo is to return from a suspension, Rooney from injury and Saha/Solskjaer are both training again after their own injuries. All those problems and we’re still playing teams off the park. The goals will come.

Watching the game today (v Man City) I thought the performance was brilliant. Hargreaves was fantastic in the defensive midfield role especially considering he’s still not completely fit. But even more promising was the link up between Scholes, Hargreaves and Carrick who must have had a 90% pass completion rate between the three of them and Man City just couldn’t get the ball off them.

The problem came with the other three.

Nani doesn’t look that good at all. His crossing is mediocre at best, he’s not dancing past people like his reputation promised and he wasted an awful chance unmarked in front of Kasper Schmeichel. Giggs too is suffering from a similar lack of penetration. His deterioration as his pace escapes him is going exactly to script, and it’s making for painful viewing. Tevez was feeding off scraps, suffering from a lack of fitness anyway and being marked by two big, physical defenders. As well as we played – the lack of penetration on the wings coupled with Tevez being marked by Dunne and Richards (who were both contenders for man of the match) meant this was never going to end well.

There’s 35 more games and Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and whoever else still have to get those tricky away games themselves. The results are gonna come. Whether Chelsea or Liverpool go seven points ahead today is irrelevant. The level of teams surrounding the top four (Tottenham, Portsmouth, Newcastle, West Ham, Blackburn and Manchester City) has raised so much that the Chelsea’s and Liverpool’s ARE going to drop more points this season. They’ve all got lots of tricky away ties ahead of them and people are already talking like the other title contenders are going to go the next 35 games without winning. Nonsense. It’s way too early for this kind of panic.

A win against Tottenham next week, and then another against Sunderland the week after and we’ll all be singing a very different tune. So take your negativity elsewhere.

Apparently if I were a Simpsons character, this is what I’d look like.

your_image.png

I don’t know why that’s important. And I don’t know why I’m sharing it with you.

This is down to a pointless, yet time-killing, promotion tool for the Simpsons movie - http://www.simpsonizeme.com. Give it a try, it takes a random picture of you and makes you look nothing like yourself.

Hurray.

Tim Westwood is a dick. A proper dick. And everyone knows that they’d rather have a cock literally going backwards and forwards in their ear for 2 hours rather than listen to him “dropping bombs” and talking utter, utter bollocks. I just used three different references to male genitalia in as many sentences, such is the level of dickishness that Tim Westwood reaches.

But for some reason the hip hop community appreciate him. Maybe it’s because U.S. artists know that if they want to promote an album in the U.K. then they have to goto Westwood on Radio 1. I mean it can’t be that he’s a good DJ, because he’s not. And it can’t be because he’s “down with them” because he’s a 50 year old white guy whos dad is a priest. Gangsta!

So I was astonished, as I usually am by Westwood’s guests, when Kanye West chose to premiere two tracks from his forthcoming album “Graduation” on the Tim Westwood show this week. Of all the places and all the DJs - he chose Westwood. I’m shaking my head as I type this. Anyway, here’s the video of Kanye and tall Tim in the studio courtesy of youtube. Look out for bomb dropping, glass breaking and “HOOOOOOOOOOLLA!!!!”s. Awful, awful scenes.

Fuck you Westwood. Fuck you.

This band are the bollocks. I wrote a little bit about them in my round up of Utopia Live a few months back. I’m not going to fill you with info on them, I reckon all I need to do is show you the video for “Runner” and you should be hooked. So here it is:

I hate love songs, and songs about love, but “Runner” is just so, so good. They’ve a debut album out now - which I’m yet to get my hands on - but having heard a bit of their stuff from playing it on the radio I can safely say it’s all worth a listen.

A few months back I wrote some short guides on downloading music/movies and things through torrents, and also a short guide on how to watch sports/TV online – now I’m going to teach you how to steal videos from youtube. “Why would I want to do that?” You might ask – well just in case you see something you like on youtube that you don’t want to have to search for every time you want to watch it, or so that you can put them on your ipod or phone or whatever…

First things first, go to youtube… http://www.youtube.com
youtube1.jpg

Find the video you want – for the purpose of this guide we’re going to be stealing this random video of two guys pretending to be Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior, because it makes me chuckle…

At the search engine near the top of the page type in what you’re looking for, in this case – “hulk Hogan and ultimate warrior compilation” – then hit search…
youtube2.jpg

Look through the search results for the video you’re after, once you’ve found it click on the title and it’ll take you through to the video.
youtube3.jpg

Which should bring you to this screen. If it does, look to the right of the screen where I’ve circled for a box that says URL next to it. In here should be the address of the video, in this case http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlM3B2XxLls. Highlight the address and copy it.
youtube4.jpg

Now go to keepvid.com. It should look something like this.
youtube5.jpg

Inside the area I’ve circled (the green box near the top of the page), paste the address that you’ve just copied (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlM3B2XxLls). Once you’ve done that, click download to the right of the box.
youtube6.jpg

Scroll down a little bit and you should see the “Download” box. As soon as you the download button from the previous instruction this new box should come up. Right click on the bit of text I’ve underlined, it should say “Download Link”. Right click and then press Save Target As.
youtube7.jpg

Save the file somewhere memorable and rename it. When you rename it make sure you save it as FILENAME.FLV. This is very important. Stick whatever name you want in, but make sure you put .flv on the end. Once more, .flv on the end. What are you putting on the end? Yes, .flv, that’s correct. So hulkhogan.flv and then click save.
youtube8.jpg

Now you’ve got the video saved on your computer, but it’s in a dodgy file you can’t play… SO…

Now, you need to download a program called SUPER from erightsoft.com. SUPER stands for Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer – it’s completely free and better than programs you would usually pay for. It will turn this dodgy .flv file into one that you can play in Windows Media Player or any other program.

To download SUPER, click here . Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for…
youtube9.jpg

Right click on any of the four files and save it. Once it’s downloaded, install SUPER wherever you want – but make sure you put a shortcut on your desktop.

Once it’s installed, start it up. It should look something like this…
youtube10.jpg

There’s a lot of buttons and menus but don’t get lost in all of those. They’re not really that important. Right click in the big grey box near the bottom of SUPER and it should bring up this list. Click “Add Multimedia File(s)” which should be at the top of the list…
youtube11.jpg

Now find “Hulk Hogan” or whatever video you saved. And click Open.
youtube12.jpg

You need to decide what you want to save it as. In the top left corner there’s a little drop down menu that says “Output Controller”. It brings up LOADS of options, but you most likely want .mp4, .avi or .wmv. If you just want the audio (say if you want the song from a music video, or something) then .mp3 or .wma are what you want here. There’s also options for iPods, PSPs, Phones and Nintendo DS’s. It depends what you want. We’re going to save this video as an mp4 – so it’ll play in real player, quicktime and itunes.
youtube13.jpg

Now back to the bottom of SUPER. You should see this…
youtube14.jpg
You’ve added your file to the box and you’ve decided what you want to save it as, all that’s left is to press “Encode” and sit back and wait.

The progress bar comes up here…
youtube15.jpg

Once that’s done all you need to do is find your video. By default, it will be saved in C:\ Program Files \ eRightSoft \ Super \ Output … and then whatever you saved it as. You can change where you save it by right clicking in SUPER and there’s an output option in the menu.

This also works with Myspace vids, Google vids, Youtube vids on people’s blogs, etc. All you need to do is find the URL (address of the video) which you can usually do by right clicking, or sometimes like with youtube its beside the video anyway. Just copy the address into KeepVid.com and you’re on your way.

Give me an e-mail if you’ve any questions.

It’s good to have the football season back.

A few new albums for you to fuck with…

And here’s a torrent for the new album from The Enemy.

You’re welcome.

Please kill Drogba today.

Thanks.

Your pal forever,

Rob.

Bonjour,

About half an hour ago I answered my door to a guy holding a big can of bug spray. Apparently my landlord has sent him round to spray various rooms of the house – of course, these rooms have to be evacuated for 2 hours for the fumes to leave (or for him to rob as much of our stuff as he likes) – so I’ve pretty much been kicked out of the house. (I’m now in the library, before an intense gym session).

I only got back into Sunderland today. I’ve yoyo’d between home (York) and Sunderland for the better part of a week now. I was back in York on Sunday to spend a night with friends who I hadn’t seen in months and months, then went with my family and girlfriend to watch The Simpsons on Monday night before jetting back (not literally, I drove) to S’land the following morning. Amy then dragged me round Newcastle for the whole of Tuesday to find a dress to wear to my dad’s wedding next month, and on Wednesday she dragged me round all of Sunderland to find shoes to match.

After working Wednesday we drove down to York/Leeds so that we could have a meal with my dad and his bride-to-be on Thursday, and first thing this morning (Friday) I was back in Sunderland to have Sky+ fitted in the house. Busy week. Although, Sky+ hasn’t been fitted, they took one look at the house and said they needed to come back Tuesday because the dish had to go next to our chimney. She was a woman, I’m not surprised she didn’t fancy climbing the roof ;).

My night out on Sunday was top notch. Got to see all of my best mates from school, a lot of which I haven’t spoken to properly for the better part of a year (because I’m lazy and they’ve probably got better things to do). I’m the one with the awful smirk on the right of the screen.

For those of you in the photo that are reading this – Liam’s hand is very conveniently place on Louise’s hips. Good work Liam.

It wasn’t a particularly eventful night out, but it was wonderful and one of the best nights out I’ve had in a long while.

Last night as me and Amy were out eating a meal, she decided to leave my iPod on in her bag (resulting in a dead battery), so today I had to travel all the way back to S’land without any music. Not a total disaster – I picked up a copy of the Guardian and read it from cover to cover – and it kept me pretty entertained. A couple of things worth sharing:

- The Spice girls have opened up their ‘world tour’ to the fans, and will play an extra date anywhere in the world – whichever city receives the most votes on their website. Fair enough, you might think, but after a P.R. stint in Iraq, a lot of sarcastic votes have launched Baghdad to the top of that last. A city that is war-torn, regularly loses power, and probably doesn’t even have a secure stadium looks like it could be the winner of this competition. If, like me, you’d love to see that happen. Google ‘The Spice Girls’ and vote for Baghdad on the tour section of their web site.

- Russia have claimed billions of pounds worth of oil/gas reserves in the Arctic Ocean by placing a flag on the sea bed. Two submarines dove more than two and a half miles (a record, by the way) beneath the North Pole and planted a one metre-high titanium Russian flag to symbolically claim what experts predict could be 10bn tonnes of hydrocarbons. I couldn’t help but laugh at the childish nature of this – and I’d love to be at the meeting when the United Nations discuss the legitimacy of this flag. Does a flag qualify you for billions of pounds worth of oil and gas reserves? Does America now own the moon? Who knows? But Canada aren’t happy about it, likening Russia methods to 15th century colonial land grabs. Personally I think that’s the way forward and I might invest in some flag poles myself… Read more about Russia’s genious here.

- Another story I read yesterday is that of Rhain Davis, a 9 year old boy who has been signed to play for Man Utd off the strength of a DVD. Rhain lives in Australia and has been invited over to Manchester based on the tape that his Grandfather sent to Old Trafford. Young Rhain is already being compared to Wayne Rooney, and his video has made it onto Youtube where it has attracted 1.6 million views. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, here’s the video: (He’s pretty good)…

That’s about it really. Kate Nash and Kano’s albums have made their way onto the net. To download Kate Nash – Made of Bricks, click here. For Kano – London Town, click here.

Ta-ta for now.

rooneytevez.jpg

West Ham have finally agreed to terminate the ‘contract’ of Carlos Tevez. Thought to be for a compensation fee of around £2 million, Tevez can now make his long-awaited transfer to Manchester United. The move I’ve been wishing for over a year, and expecting for the last couple of months, could be completed as early as tomorrow.

I can’t imagine Tevez will play against Chelsea on Sunday, but he should be fit and ready to play our first game of the Premiership season next weekend. A frontline of Rooney and Tevez sounds wonderful to me. Many have said that the pair are ’too similar’ to play together - but we haven’t played with a target man since Ruud left, and you know what we’ve played better football for it. Last year the front four (Rooney, whoever partnered him, Giggs and Ronaldo) all switched positions throughout every game and that’ll be the same again this year with Tevez. Fuck target man. Just sit back and enjoy Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo and co play with complete freedom.

I have to say I’m on a bit of a downer that Alan Smith has left to goto Newcastle on the same day. It’s very sad to see Smith leave, as he’s given his all to Manchester United and, in my opinion, is a much better contributer to our team than Louis Saha (so for me Smith should play whenever Rooney/Tevez are unavailable) but if he wants to play week in, week out - he’s not going to get that at Old Trafford, especially as he never scored enough goals to play up front and he never had the positional discipline to play in midfield. I wish him all the best at Newcastle.

Come on Tevez 8)
