Last night I said to my mother something along the lines of “I’m going upstairs to sort something on the inter-web”.

She looked at me with a blank stare and then said…

“So what’s the difference between the internet and the interweb?”

After this, she tried to redeem herself. I reminded her of the time on The Simpsons where Homer decides to start up an internet company only to sit at a desk and say “Wow, they have the Internet on computer these days” (at a time when the internet was ONLY on computers). To this my mother replied, “Yeah, but what about those web boxes?”

What the hell is a web box?

It was all very funny. Made all the more funny by claims she knows what shes talking about because she’s had to go on computer courses for work.

I just hope in 20/30 years time my kid isn’t using his computer (or whatever they’ll have then) to document just how out-of-touch I am from the world of technology.

I know landline phones are pointless as fuck nowadays, what with everybody having one or two mobile phones… but this lego phone is awesome.

Yes, it DOES work. And it has mute and redial buttons. There’s a drawer on the side to pull out other legos, so you can start building on the phone itself. The phone has features for turning the ringer low, high, and off and a switch for Tone or Pulse dialing too.

You can pick it up for anywhere between $60-150 depending on where you look.

I absolutely love it. Bit expensive mind :/

It’s not surprising after the success of the Prada/LG phone that fashion giants Chanel should churn out their own model…

How does it work? More photos after the jump. (more…)

e-paperbrace.jpg

Just found this geeky little gadget. Not available yet, the e-paper snap bracelet is a concept currently under production. Once fitted upon your wrist it acts like a watch and displays the time and date. However, if you take it off and unroll it, it becomes a fully functional video player. The bracelet won’t require batteries or charging as it will work off of kinetic energy. I like the idea but to be honest, the price tag will be through the roof… and it’s incredibly nerdy.

I keep finding a tonne of this stuff over on Kanye West’s blog, www.kanyeuniversity.com. I knew the guy was into his fashion and technology but he must put up one or two crazy inventions every day. It’s well worth a read. I’m gonna relay some of my favourites here though… like this public waterfall created by Tadao Ando & Tokujin Yoshioka in the middle of Tokyo.

Tadao Ando designed the architecture and optical glass bar was designed by Yoshioka, before being put together by Olafur Eliasson. It’s not actually a waterfall, rather an illusion using the optical glass blocks that makes it appear to be a bar made from water.

God damn. This is Panasonic’s 150-inch Plasma, with a staggering 2160×4096 pixel count. It’s not on sale until atleast 2009 if you were already counting your pennies, but it’s nice to know that in a few years time we’ll be able to see 150-inch wide panda’s in our front room… anybody else find that just a little bit scary?

Imagine Madden on this shit…

Crazy huh?

This is the Kamioka Observatory in Japan, which is a research facility to detect neutrinos, proton decay and cosmic rays. It’s 1,000m underground in the Mozumi Mine. Wikipedia it if you want to know more about it. I care less about what it does and more about the fact that it looks like something out of a movie. Infact I’m surprised it does anything at all, it looks like a cross between something out of the Matrix and that Justin Timberlake video.
